This project aims to construct an environmental training center in an emerging Eco-village in Moldova. The center will serve as a regional hub for practical education in the fields of organic agriculture, energy efficiency, eco-construction and community development. It will include a kitchen/dining area and meeting space for up to 60 individuals at a time.

Challenge

Lack of knowledge and industrial agriculture have degraded Moldova's previously fertile black soils. Inefficiently built houses make it extremely hard for people to pay ever-rising energy bills. Trust and social cohesion in communities is crumpling and youth see no opportunities. This leaves people hopeless and drives migration, especially from rural areas. In 20 years about a quarter of population moved abroad. Very few positive examples of building vibrant resilient communities are visible.

Positive potential and our solution:

But we believe that Moldovan rural areas have a great potential, if only we would increase cohesion, trust and cooperation in the community, re-ignite the motivation to improve the lifestyles, health and social action, set on green solutions, like organic agriculture, renewable energies, eco-tourism and production of local authentic ecological products. The Environmental Training Center will serve as a demonstration and resource platform for such practices of sustainable development. Change-makers from Moldova and abroad will exchange innovative ideas and learn about permaculture, natural building, water management, climate change, social entrepreneurship and more. Over the past year our small trainings sparked up initiatives throughout Moldova, like urban gardens, eco-houses and youth-driven community projects.

Goals of the project:

One of the major project goals is to create a vibrant learning hub for sustainable practices and disseminate them through the whole region. Also, this project aims to support the local community through job creation and educational opportunities. Engaging local women in construction and hosting visitors will allow them to earn an income near their families, not abroad. The Center will gradually become self-sustaining and will enable creation of further social entrepreneurship and green business initiatives. On a long run this project will give more people hope to stay in Moldova and develop their home country together with a supportive community.

Beneficiaries:

In the first place - the inhabitants of Rîșcova village, who will have a location for community development, an opportunity to learn and share knowledge and develop their own social entreprises or volunteering initiatives. They will also benefit from new working places right near their home, the local economy will be strenghtened, because products of local farmers will be used for food preparation. Of course external visitors from all parts of Moldova and international guests, who come to learn and share sustainable practices in different domains. Diverse Moldovan organisations and initiatives, who will be able to use the space for their events and inspire their participants through added value of the ecological and healthy atmosphere. The EcoVisio association will be able to contribute to achieving it's vision (Moldova as a model region for sustainable development) in a more efficient way.

Use of Donations:

The donations collected through your help at guvern24.md will be used to finalize the construction of the Environmental Training Center - finishing the walls, putting up the roof and the windows and to train activists and farmers from other villages in methods of ecological construction. Thus more communities will benefit from this long-term project.

How far is the construction process now?

We have already raised the foundation and a part of the walls.

When will the center be ready?

We plan to finalize the construction by late summer 2017, so that in fall 2017 it can be already used to its full capacity.

8000€ is not enough for such a complex building, where does the remaining money come from?

Yes, of course. The total cost is about 75.000. We have invested about 10.000€ of own resources, raised about 12.000€ through donations, received about 5000€ through grants, earned about 5000€ through income generating activities (providing event services). About 35.000€ are going to be taken as a loan (Crowd-investment) and paied back within 5 years of operation). This ca. 8.000€ are missing to finalize the construction.

Who will own the building?

The EcoVisio Association, a local NGO, with a democratically elected board. The NGO is verified by external auditors.

Who will benefit from the training center?

In the first place - the inhabitants of Rîșcova village, who will have a location for community development, an opportunity to learn and share knowledge and develop their own social entreprises or volunteering initiatives. They will also benefit from new working places right near their home, the local economy will be strenghtened, because products of local farmers will be used for food preparation.

And of course outside visitors from all parts of Moldova and international guests, who come to learn and share sustainable practices in different domains.

Diverse Moldovan organisations and initiatives, who will be able to use the space for their events and inspire their participants through added value of the ecological and healthy atmosphere.

And of course the EcoVisio association will be able to contribute to achieving it's vision (Moldova as a model region for sustainable development) in a more efficient way.
